Volume 6

Filmstock: Kodak Portra 800

Camera: Yashica Mat 124

Lens: Yashinon 80mm f/3.5

I don’t usually do much urban photography, none less at night on medium format film. But there I was at 10 pm, setting up the tripod on Route 66 as it runs through Albuquerque’s Nob Hill area.

The half second exposure was perfect for adding some passing traffic to the scene.

I rode my bikes a few blocks over to Central Ave. The neon lights, glowing store fronts, and stream of traffic was a stark contrast to the surrounding quiet darkness of the night.

My first time shooting Portra 800. As one of the most expensive film stocks commonly available, I have to say is that it’s worth every penny. The colors are stunning and of course I love the green cast to the images.

This project was inspired in part by Kyle McDougall. I noticed lot of his photography work was done along Route 66 in Texas and New Mexico. With the route running just a few minutes from my house I couldn’t help but to explore some of its beauty, mystery, and timeless aesthetic.

Last shot on the roll. Gave the self-timer a try and walked into frame.

Self portrait at Tractor Brewing. Some light leaks on film because I didn’t properly finish winding it up but I love the look it provided.

Thanks for stopping by. Until Next time cheers!
